Red, White & Blue Ripper + Pocket Frost White — Getting Started
Aircraft-specific 4S guide for the custom 3-inch Ripper and its RadioMaster Pocket Frost White ELRS radio.
The quad and radio
| Frame | Volador T700 carbon 3-inch frame with red, white and blue details |
| Motors | AOS / RCinPower 1404 4000KV |
| Flight electronics | Flywoo F722 flight controller and 45A four-in-one ESC |
| Control | RadioMaster RP1 ExpressLRS 2.4 GHz; RadioMaster Pocket Frost White ELRS |
| Video | DJI O4 Pro Air Unit |
| GPS | HGLRC Mini M100 |
| Battery | 4S LiPo; 650 mAh is the documented under-249 g setup |
1. Prepare the Pocket
- Fit charged, suitable 18650 cells and power on the Pocket. Select the intended EdgeTX model and check that internal RF is set to 2.4 GHz ELRS.
- Lower throttle fully and keep ARM disarmed. The Pocket's switches are configurable; do not copy another pilot's switch map.
- Remove all props, connect a 4S battery and confirm ELRS link and telemetry. If already bound, there is no reason to rebind.
- In Betaflight Receiver, check roll, pitch, yaw and throttle direction. Move each physical switch and note its AUX channel. In Modes, record the actual ARM position, flight mode, BEEPER and GPS Rescue assignment if configured.
2. Mount the correct 4S battery
Use a healthy 4S LiPo and match the fitted connector and polarity; the photographed setup uses XT30. Never connect 6S. Place the pack lengthwise, front to back on the top plate, and fasten the strap across its width. Tug it and secure the power lead so neither can touch a propeller.
The documented 650 mAh 4S configuration was measured under 249 g. A bigger pack, different props or added parts can change the total. Weigh your complete ready-to-fly setup if that threshold matters.
3. Check the aircraft in Betaflight
- With every prop removed, save a backup or CLI diff before changing settings.
- In Setup, tilt the aircraft and verify the on-screen model matches.
- In Receiver and Modes, verify stick endpoints, ARM, ANGLE or HORIZON if present, ACRO behavior, BEEPER and any configured Rescue range.
- In Motors, verify motor order and actual rotation. The installed propellers must match rotation and push air downward.
- Unplug battery and USB before reinstalling props. Inspect arms, screws, camera, GPS and receiver antennas.
4. Goggles and GPS
Use goggles compatible with DJI O4 Pro. Check for live video and Betaflight OSD; pair only if needed. Video alone does not prove radio control. Keep stationary O4 bench sessions short or use airflow.
Give the HGLRC Mini M100 an open sky view. Confirm satellites and home position before relying on a GPS function. GPS Rescue, if configured, is an emergency aid, not DJI Return to Home. It has no obstacle avoidance. Verify climb, return, throttle and failsafe settings before a controlled test in a large open area.
5. First flight and field checklist
- Practice FPV in a simulator first. Choose a broad area away from people, animals, roads and water.
- Check a healthy 4S pack and secure strap, props and motor hardware, Pocket model and telemetry, intended switches, DJI image and OSD. Confirm GPS home position if using GPS features.
- Arm from a safe distance, make a brief low hover, land and disarm. Check control response and vibration before flying farther.
- Unplug and inspect the motors, propellers, straps, arms, antennas, camera and GPS. Investigate excessive heat or odd sounds.
If something does not work
| No ELRS link | Check Pocket model, internal RF, receiver power, 2.4 GHz settings and binding phrase. |
| Wrong switch | Remove props; verify physical switch, AUX channel and Betaflight Modes range. |
| Video but no OSD | Check Betaflight OSD and DJI configuration before flight. |
| GPS not ready | Move outdoors and wait for a valid home position. |
Balance-charge 4S packs while attended. Store at storage voltage when unused and never fly or charge a swollen, punctured or crushed battery. I can help diagnose binding, pairing and Betaflight setup, but I do not run a general repair service.
