KALEIDOSCOPE

3-INCH CUSTOM FPV — GETTING STARTED GUIDE

DJI O4 Pro • ELRS 2.4GHz • GPS • 4S • XT30

This little quad started with a colorful coffee mug and ended as a premium hand-built 3-inch FPV machine. It is small, light and beautifully balanced—but it is still a real manual FPV aircraft.

Your Kaleidoscope Build

4S ONLY — XT30 CONNECTOR. Recommended everyday battery: 4S 850–1100mAh. A suitable 4S 650mAh pack keeps this build under 249g in the tested configuration. Battery weights vary, so verify the complete aircraft on your own scale when a regulatory threshold matters.

1. Power-Up Sequence

  1. Power the compatible DJI goggles.
  2. Power on your ELRS radio and verify the correct controls.
  3. Place the quad on a level safe surface, props clear.
  4. Plug in a 4S XT30 LiPo.
  5. Confirm ELRS control link, DJI video and Betaflight OSD.
  6. Wait for GPS satellites before using GPS-based functions.
DO NOT ARM ON THE WORKBENCH. Keep hands, straps, wires, coffee cups, pets and people away from the propeller disk.

2. ExpressLRS

Kaleidoscope uses a 2.4GHz HappyModel Nano ELRS receiver. If it is already bound, do not re-bind it unnecessarily. If manual binding is required and the receiver supports the power-cycle method, power on/off twice and leave it powered on the third startup to enter bind mode. Put the ELRS radio into Bind, then verify roll, pitch, yaw, throttle, AUX channels and telemetry in Betaflight with props removed.

3. DJI O4 Pro

Use DJI goggles compatible with the O4 Pro Air Unit and compatible firmware. Confirm video and Betaflight OSD before flight. If pairing is needed, use the supported linking mode on the goggles and O4 Pro. Avoid leaving the O4 Pro powered for long periods on the bench without airflow.

4. Betaflight Modes & Rates

For a newer pilot I can configure more conservative rates before delivery. Lower rates can reduce rotation sensitivity, but they do not replace simulator practice or throttle control.

6. GPS & GPS Rescue

Give the HGLRC M100 Mini a clear view of the sky and confirm satellites in the OSD. GPS Rescue is an emergency recovery feature, not an autopilot or guaranteed autonomous navigation system. Verify minimum satellites, altitude behavior, throttle/hover values and failsafe behavior before relying on it. Test only in a large open area away from people, buildings, traffic, water and trees.

FINAL REMINDER: 4S. XT30. Radio link. Goggles link. Correct props. Clear area. GPS lock when needed. Simulator time before hero time. Coffee first—props second—fly safe.
