Blingy — Getting Started Guide

Volador VX3 3-inch 4S FPV quad with DJI O4 Pro, ELRS and GPS. A practical owner guide to safe setup and first flight.

Read before flying: This is an open-prop manual FPV quad, not a self-flying camera drone. Remove all four propellers for every Betaflight, motor, receiver or failsafe bench check. New pilots should spend substantial time in a simulator before flying.

The radio's ELRS link controls Blingy; DJI O4 supplies the video. A good picture does not prove that the radio link is working. Radio, goggles and batteries are included only if stated in your purchase.

1. Power up and confirm both links

  1. Disarm and lower throttle. Turn on your 2.4 GHz ELRS radio and select the intended model or control profile.
  2. Turn on compatible DJI goggles; remove any lens or camera cover.
  3. Secure a healthy 4S battery with the straps. Match the actual plug and polarity, keep the lead clear of every propeller, and connect the aircraft last.
  4. Confirm normal ESC tones, ELRS telemetry, live DJI video and believable battery voltage in the Betaflight OSD. If either link is missing, do not arm.
  5. For any GPS feature, wait outdoors under open sky for adequate satellites and a home position.

Shutdown: disarm, unplug the aircraft, then turn off goggles and radio. The O4 can overheat during long stationary bench sessions; keep those sessions brief or provide airflow.

2. Bind only if needed

If the RP1 and your radio are already linked, leave binding alone. If they are not, check that the radio uses its 2.4 GHz ELRS transmitter and compatible receiver settings. Put the receiver into bind mode by its supported button or power-cycle method, then use the transmitter's Bind command. With all props removed, confirm stick channels, switches, telemetry and failsafe in Betaflight before flight.

Pair the DJI O4 Pro to compatible goggles only if the existing video link is missing. Once paired, verify both live video and Betaflight OSD. The goggles do not replace the ELRS control link.

3. Battery and props-out setup

Use a quality 4S LiPo; roughly 650–1100 mAh is a practical starting range when it fits the frame and is securely strapped. Do not use 6S. A fully charged 4S pack reads about 16.8 V. Verify all four cells on the balance charger and never charge a damaged or swollen pack unattended.

Props out: Blingy is configured with front propellers rotating outward from the camera. Motor order, actual rotation, Betaflight direction setting and CW/CCW blade installation must all agree. Check with props removed; a mismatch can make the quad flip instantly.

4. Verify Betaflight and switch assignments

  1. Remove all four propellers. Connect Betaflight and save a backup before editing.
  2. On Setup, tilt the quad and make sure the screen model follows it.
  3. On Receiver, check roll, pitch, yaw, throttle, centers and endpoints. Move every radio switch and identify the actual AUX channel.
  4. On Modes, identify ARM, any ANGLE mode, BEEPER and GPS Rescue if configured. ACRO is manual flight when a leveling mode is not active. Never assume switch labels map to a mode.
  5. On Motors, confirm order and props-out rotation with props still removed. Disconnect USB and the LiPo before reinstalling props.

5. GPS Rescue and the first hover

Let the M100 Mini get a fix outdoors, then confirm satellite count and home information in the OSD. GPS Rescue, if configured, is an emergency aid with no obstacle avoidance or assured landing. Check Rescue settings, hover throttle and failsafe action before relying on it. Do not assume Position Hold or Altitude Hold is installed.

  1. Choose a broad clear field away from people, animals, cars and loose objects. Keep the quad facing away from you.
  2. Confirm the 4S pack, secure straps and lead, correct props, ELRS link, video, OSD, switch positions and GPS if needed.
  3. Arm from a safe distance, hover briefly, check response, land and disarm. If it flips, disarm instantly and diagnose with props removed.
  4. Unplug, then inspect motor and ESC heat, prop nuts, frame, GPS, camera and antenna mounts. Record approximate hover throttle for future failsafe review.
